What is a 'pet sin'?

It would be something you feed.

The best way to think about it is a dog begging under the table. Sometimes it does the cutest thing or whines and you give in and toss a scrap. You know you shouldn't…it's not the best for him, but you do it because you feel it's showing him love. But after awhile, the dog is overweight and this misguided show of affection has trained you both into a wicked cycle…the dog expects it now and you feel guilty if you don't give in.

It's that way with how our carnal man sides with demons & the sin.

It takes an 'overhaul' to get out of that rut.

Do not despair, cycles do take some reprogramming, re-training and actively exercising and walking it out in conforming to Christ Jesus. Even Paul attests:

"For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate." Romans 7:15

Instead of believing the lie (looking at those begging eyes), you stand confidently and say 'No'… and side with the Word of truth. If you fall, get back up and continue on. Eventually, when the pet sin raises it's ugly head you will catch it sooner and sooner... you will go from walking 2 steps with it to immediately recognizing it's initial whimper and call it down. And one day... you will confidently testify, minister and help others to be free in that area as well!

So You Say... Deep Ruts are Hard to Get Out of?

So you've fallen and you can't get up?
Deep ruts of sin, lies believed... you name it... if it's been going on a long time... the wagon tracks can get deep!

I liken it to the justice/criminal system in how some things can require you to STAND, a while longer for than others just like some crimes you do more time for. Sure, all sin is judged as sin, but some things just cater that enemy access more than others and so it requires one to be tested, tried and proven by a lifestyle that has gone beyond 'hearer only' into a 'DOER'.

'Doer' status comes by effectually conforming to Christ by heaping in the truth from the Word and living it out. As those attacks come, you fall less and less... conforming to God's society so you can function as an upstanding citizen!
AND... you not only overcome, but you give God Glory in the process!

How to Hear God's Voice - Tips

• To Hear God, you must first hear HIM through His word. Not only is this a breakthrough in prayer but the most important thing.... the path to an intimate relationship with Yeshua! You must begin to work your faith by believing what the word of God says.
You wouldn’t vote for someone not knowing their beliefs... you wouldn’t do something so important based on what a person looks like or how they dress... so too, it is important for you to Know who God is and what He’s about so that when He shows up, you’ll Know His character. You’ll Know the Shepherd’s voice! (Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.)

• You may come across teachings that seem right, but something ‘feel’s wrong’ about it. Ask God, to separate the wheat from the tares. Also pay attention to the fruit it’s bearing; ex: Does it incite ‘fear’? If it’s not applauded by the Holy Spirit within you, it’s not the same ‘Jesus’ you are seeking communion with (Leviticus 10:3). Remember the enemy comes in as ‘light’... he delivers a ‘half-truth’ here, one there.... pretty soon you’re falling into confusion.
The Shepherd’s voice... aligns with the Word, bears good fruit and He’s likely been telling you all along (if you ask Him a question, expect to receive the answer)... so the message would only confirm that.

• Examine your own thought life, realizing that thoughts come from yourself, the enemy or God. Hearing God takes self-discipline, because we must train ourselves in the word by what aligns with the character of God and take captive our sinful flesh and/or evil thoughts planted by the enemy. (2Corinthians 10:5-6 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”)
