'Gut Feelings' About Others

A person wrote me about having a 'gut feeling' that a popular Christian interviewer wasn't setting well with them. They honestly couldn't put a finger on 'why', but there they were, with that feeling to deal with.

So what do we do with this initial alert in our spirits?

I'll share some of what the Lord impressed upon my heart:

I've never had a problem (ie. a 'check' or warning in my spirit) with this individual before... he's had some guests on his show go wayward... But overall, it's a really good thing.

And this hit's home with me because he's just a certain personality type that comes across as 'brash' (in the bold, assertive and 'in your face' sense). I have a testimony on this very thing...

When I was an early christian, I found that his was the only type of personality that I couldn't get along with. I would be fine with women of the same type... but not men! Later, I realized that most of the men in my life at that time---of that type-- were hypocritical-- with overbearing, judgmental bossiness (a real turn-off!)-- a 'brashness' in the 'rude' sense! And so, it created a 'wounded offense' kind of disposition towards that personality type!

Until I realized that... up went the shields no matter how good their fruit was! Until I dissolved negative confessions I had made about that personality type... I would be like a magnet on it's back side when around men that fit my negative mold!

So you see, there are other reasons why we
can get that 'gut thing' about people...

In the discernment process we have to then note bad fruit to confirm the 'gut thing' (which we are also discerning... "is this you Holy Spirit?")... but if the fruit is okay, then we have to consider that perhaps the enemy is desiring to hook into us to get us in opposition with someone by being a warm-bodied weapon. Not that you were going this route... but you can see this happen when another has a wounding or access point. It only takes two, to come into agreement via gossip... agreeing on negative things... essentially cursing the person or even as a 'christian' type of witchcraft where they decide what they think is best and pray 'thy will be done' over that person... but it's really control and manipulation on their part. This stuff is sneaky, but thanks be to God for the test of His Word:

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."
Philippians 4:8-9

Like 'big bombs' have two keys to turn by different people (so all the power doesn't rest upon one person)... we are exhorted to:

"…examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good…"
1 Thessalonians 5:21

This is our fail/safe... by including the 'fruit, we can then go back and examine the initial thought or 'gut feeling' with confidence!

"We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.."
2 Corinthians 10:5

But what if we can't tell... if there's not enough fruit?

It is imperative that we pray.

"I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way."
1 Timothy 2:1-2

It is no mistake that prophetic people are ones plugged into God... but only so by prayer. Sometimes God does give us hidden information regarding a person-- hidden enough that we cannot tell by their surface fruits. What we thought was about 'fruits' is really a 'pickle'!

This requires some growth on our part! It's important that whenever we get a 'negative', that we exert a 'positive'. So even if it is indeed the Lord who is alerting our spirit regarding someone... we don't align negatively... but that we instead pray in love, for good, for blessing. We can pray that anything surrounding the person that is evil be exposed... so if it is that they are under attack, you have aligned for their good, but if indeed it all was an alert from the Lord... we will see the exposure happen within that person's life. ("For you will heap burning coals on his head, And the LORD will reward you." Proverbs 25:22)

In the end, we are an agent for satan, or for Jesus... the great thing is, that anything the enemy sends will be used for good (Romans 8:28), so long as we are doing just what we are supposed to be doing!
